Jim Hastings Ltd was established on Tyneside by Jim Hastings in
1973 to service the construction industry, carrying out building
and groundworks contracts for local authorities, The National Coal
Board and The Central Electricity Generating Board, amongst others.
Times have changed in recent years and with the disappearance of
old customers like the NCB and the CEGB, the Company has concentrated
on working for major contractors, carrying out groundwork packages
on new office complexes, warehouses, supermarkets, sub stations
and retail outlets. Along with environmental improvements schemes
for various clients including the National Grid.

Term contracts are in place for various authorities for emergency
call out work for subsidence repairs and for emergency repairs at
various industrial sites around the North of England.
After many years of giving a satisfactory service, the Company
has preferred supplier status with many organisations and is on
numerous select lists of tenderers.
Work on part of the prestigious redevelopment of the Newcastle
Quayside for the Development Corporation and various urban redevelopment
schemes for many of the local authorities in the area has been completed
on programme and within budget over the last few years.

Access from Tyneside is excellent and allows the Company to easily
travel to Scotland and as far as the Midlands and across to the
West coast with a range of contracts valued from £1k to £1.5m.
The workforce comprises 2 contracts managers, 3 site managers,
1 engineer, 1 estimator, 1 quantity surveyor and 38 operatives,
which is supplemented by additional employees and sub-contractors
when the work load requires. A subsidiary Company operates from
the same location, known as N.E.Surfacing Ltd, carrying out tarmacadam
works in the North East.
All staff are trained to a high standard in Health and Safety and
Environmental issues, and hold CSCS and CPCS
cards, with various supervisers and operatives holding a RASWA
licence and many other certificates. The Company is proud to be
members of the Civil Engineering Contractors Association
(North East), The North East Chamber of Commerce,
British Safety Council, and are a registered firm
with both ISO 9001, and ISO 14001.
The Company is also registered with Achilles on
the UVDB (utilities vendor database) and Constructionline,
a UK register of pre-qualified construction services (approved by
the dti) and most recently qualified for the CHAS register.
As a company the workforce is 100% qualified with CSCS
and have a working training plan approved by the CITB.
A target has also been set for Investors in People
and the Company is working towards full compliance by end April
2007.
